Ahibiki Bimaadiziwin (Braids of Life) Youth Council

Who are we?

We are a committee made up of youth who are in and from care who want to make a positive impact on the system through the use of their voices and experiences.

What is our purpose?

Ahibiki Bimaadiziwin (Braids of Life) ensures a strong, caring youth voice that speaks powerfully to kinship issues affecting our youth, children and communities. A voice that creates a clear path for youth in care that will be heard, and recognizes the rights that you in care are entitled to!

What are our goals?

To spread awareness, provide advocacy and ensure youth voices are heard and used to make positive change in our system.

Braid One: LOVE (Mind)

Youth – Protection, Resiliency

We protect the nurturing growth of the dreams of our children and youth in care. To nurture dreams is to nurture their growth.

Braid Two: KINDNESS (Body)

Committee – Care

We care for them, their needs and issues. We are the platform between them and rest of the world. Love and faith = great support.

Braid Three: HONESTY (Spirit)

Elder – Wisdom, Strength

We take the teachings we consistently receive from our elders and apply it to our personal selves, as well as the work that we do.

Truth

All three braids encompass truth. We bring Truth to what we stand for which is to enforce the truth that change is needed and we are the identity of, and for those, involved in the system.
